- IMPORTANT - California Court Closure Days
On July 29, 2009, the Judicial Council of California voted unanimously to close all California courts on the third Wednesday of each month beginning in September, 2009. The closures applied to all California courts including the Court of Appeals and the California Supreme Court. This action was authorized by Government Code Section 68106, which states that this closure was to be treated as a holiday for the purposes of counting time under Sections 12 and 12a of the California Code of Civil Procedure.
Government Code Section 68106, which authorizes the Judicial Council to close the courts was only operative until July 1, 2010. Although the impact of the closures was to be discussed at the January 2010 Judicial Council meeting, to date the Judicial Council has not yet announced any further statewide court closures days.
